MEET THE TEAM

MHA Sarawak has three branches – Kuching (formed 15/3/97), Sibu (formed 12/3/97) and Miri (formed 10/4/99). Each branch is headed by a branch Chairman, and the three branches work collectively under a State Council, headed by a President.

MHAS EXECUTIVE COUNCIL MEMBERS

President

Dr. Hj. Ismail bin Drahman is a retired psychiatrist (specifically psycho-geriatrician), and currently working contractual with the Health Department. His passion is mainly to advocate for mental health in the elderlies. Dr. Hj. Ismail has served as a psychiatrist at several government hospitals around Malaysia, including Sarawak General Hospital and Hospital Sentosa Kuching. Dr Ismail is also the president of the association.

Deputy President	Dr Ng Boon Seng
Deputy President	Dr Bawih Inu Pu’un	Show Roles / Responsibilities Deputise for the Chairman during the latter’s absence.
Secretary	Chan Wan Xin	Show Roles / Responsibilities Responsible for maintaining contact within the Association, executing the decisions of the Executive Council and of the delegates’ conference, and maintaining consolidated records of the Association except those concerned with finance
Assistant Secretary	Sia Sui Mee	Show Roles / Responsibilities Assist the Secretary-General in carrying outhis duties and shall act for him in his absence.
Treasurer	Dr Syarifah Hafizah bt Wan Kassim	Show Roles / Responsibilities Keep funds of the Association and collect and disburse all monies on behalf of the Association and shall keep an account of all monetary transactions.
Assistant Treasurerral	Jacqueline Robles de Buri	Show Roles / Responsibilities Assist the Treasurer-General in carryingout his/her duties and shall act for him/her in his/her absence.
Public Relation/ Education Officer	Lau Lung Hui	Show Roles / Responsibilities Responsible for coordinating theAssociation’s public education programme and for liaising with the media.
Welfare Officer	Chin Chew Lan	Show Roles / Responsibilities Coordinating the Association’swelfare and social activities.

KUCHING BRANCH

Kuching Branch Chairman

Dr. Ng is a psychiatrist with over 15 years of clinical experience, currently specialising in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. He completed an advanced Fellowship in Child & Adolescent Psychiatry in 2023 through a joint programme in Malaysia and Australia.
Alongside his work with young people, Dr. Ng is also experienced in adult psychotherapy and family mental health concerns, including marital and relational issues. He adopts a holistic approach to care, considering each individual within the broader context of their family, school, and social environments.
Dr. Ng currently serves as the Chairman of the Mental Health Association of Sarawak (Kuching Branch), where he advocates for greater mental health awareness and access to care.

SIBU BRANCH

Sibu Branch Chairman

Councillor So Teck Kee is a successful businessman. He is highly active in community and charity works in the town of Sibu. He is one of the prominent members in some organisations, notably Associated Chinese Chambers of Commerce and Industry of Sarawak (ACCCIS) and Hin Hua Poh Sen Association Sibu. Realizing the importance of mental health, he supported the association and then elected as the chairman of Sibu Branch.

MIRI BRANCH

Miri Branch Chairman

Hailing from Baram Miri, Dr Bawin Inu Pu’un is the leading figure of mental health awareness and advocacy in Miri Division. She is currently the Head of Psychiatric Department at Miri General Hospital. Dr Bawih was awarded with Master’s Degree in Medicine (Psychiatry) from Universiti Sains Malaysia. She is vocal and passionate about fighting mental health stigma in Sarawak and promoting good coping skills and help-seeking behaviour to among Sarawakian society in the ever challenging situations of the country. Dr. Bawih has been actively involved in mental health seminars, forums and dialogues.
